What it does

AppZen positions itself as 'Agentic AI for Accounts Payable and Expense Management', with Autonomous AP, Expense Audit (automated AI expense-report auditing), Autonomous Cards (auditing and resolving non-T&E card transactions) and fraud and risk detection. Its AI Agent Studio turns uploaded standard operating procedures or templates into AI agents, lets teams test each agent against historical or live data before go-live, makes all agent actions visible, explainable and auditable, and has agents escalate to human teammates when they lack certainty. On the Texas DIR TX-RAMP certified list, AppZen 'Expense Audit, Autonomous AP' is certified at Level 2 (TX1331575). The contact page lists AppZen Headquarters in Santa Clara, California. On 20 Oct 2026 AppZen announced VAT Reclaim Agents, built on its Mastermind platform and working with Autonomous AP and Expense Audit. VAT Extraction Agents read VAT details from receipts and invoices. VAT Reclaim Adjudication Agents decide, per jurisdiction, whether VAT is fully, partly or not recoverable and record the reasoning and legal basis. VAT Reclaim Action Agents ask employees for documentation, contact suppliers for corrected invoices and send reminders, then return each transaction for re-adjudication. AppZen says the agents will be generally available from January 2027.
