Which compliance framework do I need?

A sourced map of common frameworks buyers ask about, plus a small picker that names frameworks to look into from your answers. It never says you must adopt one. This is not a ranking or score.

Last reviewed 20 Oct 2026Dataset v0.1.2718 sources
General information, not legal advice. Confirm scope with your counsel or auditor. Official dates only. We do not estimate how long compliance will take.

Picker (progressive enhancement)

Answer who is asking, where customers or data sit, industry, and whether a contract or regulator set a date. JavaScript then lists frameworks to look into, with the cited “why”. Without JavaScript, skip the picker and read the framework sections below — they work as static HTML.

Who is asking?
Where are your customers or the data?
Industry
Deadline

The picker never estimates how long the work will take. It only repeats official dates from the table below.

Choose answers to see frameworks to look into.

Frameworks (static; works without JavaScript)

One section per framework, from official sources checked 20 Oct 2026. Hub and “best of” links appear only where Agent Index already has a hub. Otherwise the official source is the next step. Listed agents are dataset tags, alphabetical — not a ranking.

FAQ

Does this picker tell me which framework I must have?

No. It only names frameworks to look into, with the “why” taken from official applicability statements. Confirm scope with your counsel or auditor. General information, not legal advice.

Is this a ranking of frameworks or vendors?

No. This is not a ranking or score. Frameworks appear from the answers you give. Listed agents are alphabetical by name, from dataset tags.

Does the United States require SOC 2?

No official source checked on 20 Oct 2026 says US enterprises require SOC 2. Phrase it as “customers may ask for a SOC 2 report”. AICPA describes SOC reports as independent assurance to a service organization’s customers (user entities).

When does CMMC Phase II start?

It does not currently have a start date on the official page checked. Phase 1 began 10 Nov 2025. On 13 Jul 2026 the Department of War announced the immediate suspension of CMMC Phase II requirements (originally scheduled for 10 Nov 2026). Phase I self-assessment requirements remain in place.

What DPDP dates can you show?

The official PIB release describes an 18-month phased compliance timeline after the Rules were notified (PIB dated 14 Nov 2025). Exact gazette phase dates were not re-fetched for this picker. The existing DPDP checklist on this site already cites a MeitY Rules PDF for 13 May 2027.
