What it does
NEC announced the NEC Procurement Negotiation AI Agent Service (NEC 調達交渉AIエージェントサービス) on Dec 2, 2025, available from that month. It uses NEC's in-house automated negotiation AI (自動交渉AI) to automate the complex delivery-date and quantity adjustments that manufacturers' procurement teams make with suppliers. According to NEC, the service checks all orders, picks out the ones that need date or quantity changes to optimise inventory, and generates negotiation proposals. It then presents those proposals to suppliers through an AI agent and negotiates with them interactively, aiming for terms both sides can accept without a buyer stepping in. It integrates with ERP and other existing systems. NEC's own solution page says the technology generates optimal trading terms in place of people and negotiates autonomously. It is designed for AI-to-human and AI-to-AI negotiation. Vendor-reported results: a November 2024 trial at an NEC group company covered about 1,300 purchased parts, with a 95% rate of agreements reached by AI alone and negotiation time cut from hours or days to about 80 seconds. Later NEC releases list a trial with Mitsubishi Electric Trading (Apr 15, 2026) and NEC's own group procurement adopting the service (May 26, 2026). NEC also says its e-negotiation approach was adopted as an international standard at UN/CEFACT. These figures and statements are vendor claims. Published price: from ¥36 million a year, plus a separate initial fee. NEC's stated target is 100 companies over five years.
